prior to we kick things off I just wish to say that the content that will be discussed on this space is intended for information on educational functions just and ought to not be considered Financial suggestions okay so in light of global women’s day I’m joined by an extremely special guest Julie Lee and for those that you don’t know who Julia is Julia is an ETF equities financial investment strategist at phase 3 Worldwide advisors and she has over 20 years experience in the monetary markets and has actually operated in various functions consisting of CIO for Australia equities fund and Equity strategist at Bell direct for 11 years and Julia is also on the board of directors for the Australian stock Brokers structure and has our masters of service in financing and Julia thanks a lot for joining me today we are delighted to have you here such an enjoyment eagerly anticipating it I am what fantastic profession that you have actually had over the last 20 years um it’s quite excellent but perhaps it’s finest that you present yourself and inform us a bit about who you are and what you do and I think you can do a better task than I can sure so um I’ve been in financing now for over 20 years
I am a little a geek um I think in my earlier years I was definitely an introvert but I would have to say of him very much an extrovert now however I’m also rather independent too um I am rather strong-willed that makes it a bit tough for hubby often however I I do enjoy the marketplaces and I do love finding out also so I’m a little bit of a reader I like numbers and I guess I’m a little a late bloomer also I believe yeah yeah and to the point that you have actually discussed that you’re an introvert and how I think I was a shy introverted yeah naturally you’re you’re now an extrovert but how did you how did you shift in between that and you’re rather you’re put constantly out there putting yourself out there how did you transition in between that
sure I think among the things that people ask me or or get discussed a fair bit is that I seem to be a natural speaker that I’m quite good at public speaking however that definitely was not always the case and it was a found out ability for me so whether it was the um overcoming the nerves part or the part around body language and even called The Confident walk I think all of those were um sort of taught abilities so it absolutely wasn’t something that came naturally to me and I worked extremely hard I guess to get that skill of having the ability to speak um and I think one thing that made a huge impression on me for somebody who was late Blue Moon introvert and relative really shy in my younger years was that everybody can speak so to be able to express yourself in such a way that individuals understand I think was rather crucial to me and um I guess that’s why I operated at the school and hopefully I am far better at it now than I was when I started I would certainly say so um and how did you can you tell us a bit about how you started in um Finance like why did you select a profession in financing and what was the the first point of contact in the financial world was there an adult influence or was this something that you were simply always interested in I would like to state that you know I constantly understood what I was going to do which was Finance but that was not the case at all I can come back when I started working it wasn’t.
unusual simply to fall into your profession for me I really wished to be a lawyer from the time I was about seven years of ages but at the time that I went to UNI there were so many attorneys that the joblessness rate with law was so high that you needed to do a double degree um so that was sort of 5 years of a double degree plus an extra year of law school and after that three years practicing as a lawyer and I believed oh that sort of sounds like an additional 10 years so I in fact ended and went up studying business at UTS so um similar to a Commerce degree um however throughout uni I um I worked at an Italian dining establishment and then I attempted to open an Italian restaurant and to do that um I needed to secure a loan with a NAB and actually I required to repay that loan when it didn’t work out so um I I saw an ad in the paper and it stated do you wish to be a stock broker and I believed oh yeah that sounds pretty good yeah we’ll give it a go we’re here we go and um you know I was fortunate because sense since I I do love the work I enjoy being able to understand organizations and to work in a market where you’re constantly being able to maintain to date with what’s occurring in the world what’s happening in terms of improvements in technology or biotechnology and science I think is an amazing thing so I love to read it and I never have a shortage of stories to read when it comes to the marketplaces yeah excellent and in between shift from oh I may want to be a stock broker how did you end up being say injustices financial investment strategist how did that occur um existed.
did you work your method up to a certain position or did you just use and after that start from there like how did that happen sure so um I think when it comes to the finance world you sort of start everyone begins at a base level and then you move into the area that you’re interested in my area of interest is always markets and I took the view that um you understand when I started I didn’t want to just um simply sort of I think offer something that I was initially involved in so I made a huge effort to walk the walk and talk to talk which means anything that I was discussing I I made the effort to actually trade myself or invest in myself as well and I began in finance with the view that you know in any occupation or in any profession it normally takes you about two or 3 years of learning to understand the lessons included and what was taking place because kind of world so I I began a financial investment journal with the view that um you know I wanted to discover as much about investing as possible in a sort of two to three timespan so in that time frame I sort of gave myself or I allowed myself the opportunity to lose money as I thought to myself for the two to 3 years um that the the goal wasn’t to make as much cash as possible but the goal was to discover the skill of having the ability to generate income so that I can use it for the rest of my life so that was an excellent period for me and I I found out a great deal of lessons I delved into fundamental analysis technical analysis understanding businesses looking at market analysis I likewise took a look at things like options trading which is a lot more dangerous but that was a great period where I I sort of laid the foundation of entering into Equity strategy which I actually do take pleasure in and the reason I enjoy being an equity strategist is I enjoy understanding cycles and how that influence on various services and the various.
service environments too so um yeah it’s been a a long journey but one I I’ve definitely um taken pleasure in so I’ve gone from presenting um things like fundamental analysis technical analysis tax reliable investing options to heading up a fundamental analysis unit where I got to take a trip a lot to the US and then I moved to Bell direct where I was Equity strategist there for 11 years and after that moved to do my own funds management organization birming invests which I offered in June and now here I am at State Street Global equities and consultants strategists for the ETF area well fantastic um during that period when you mentioned um the two to three years of discovering how did you find that your self-confidence was initially versus after the 3 years and how did you find um the resources to uh educate yourself like nowadays we have podcasts um I’m sure like before then we didn’t have a lot of resources readily available as we do now and was it through books or uni.
